Omar Mohamed Foundation started its operations in 2019 as a lobby group to marshal support for vulnerable and excluded families in the poorest and marginalized arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) of the Northern Kenya. The Foundation’s initial focus was to meet the humanitarian imperative on food security and water and sanitation.
With time, the Foundation evolved its programmes from humanitarian response to building longer term programmes that would increase community resilience. Due to the growing operations and coverage areas, the Foundation was formally registered in 2021 as a National NGO under the Kenya NGO Act Cap 19 of 1990 to position herself for increased donor support to meet growing community needs.
Omar Mohamed Foundation is a national NGO seeking to promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities through relief and development activities. This is done by mobilizing the strength and voices of children, families and communities to overcome poverty, inequality and injustice.
The Foundation envisages a transformed Kenyan society in which each individual, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or social standing, is able to access basic services, and fully participates in decision making processes on issues that affect their lives and can be heard.
